Marita I. Eskelson, 77, of Park Rapids died on Friday, April 6, 2012 at the Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids, MN. Marita Ingeborg Lindroos was born on September 3, 1934 to Frans and Hulda (Hendrickson) Lindroos in Helsinki, Finland. She grew up and attended school in Helsinki where she graduated from High School in 1952. She worked at Sherblooms large Department Store as a secretary for 19 years. Marita met her husband Lowell in 1972 while he was on an extended vacation after his retirement. They had met 20 years earlier when he was stationed in Helsinki, Finland and became friends. They were married on July 20, 1972 and bought a home in Hyvinge, Finland, a suburb of Helsinki. Their daughter Carita was born in February 1973. The family remained there until September 1975 at which time they came to Nevis, MN, the birth place of Lowell, to take care of his ailing father. They made their home there for the next 35 years. Marita enjoyed being a homemaker, caring for her daughter and husband. She loved baking bread, cooking, reading and had an amazing talent for crocheting large beautiful doilies which many of her friends and family still have and cherish. She loved animals. She was very interested in American Politics even though she was not a US citizen. Most of all she has an amazing sense of humor and could brighten any ones spirits if they were down or having a bad day. Marita is survived by her daughter—Carita (Steve) Guethling of Park Rapids, MN; stepson- Gregg (Wynetta) Eskelson of Park Rapids, MN; granddaughter—Stella Guethling of Park Rapids, MN; step granddaughters—Angela McCollough of Moorhead, MN, Michelle Eskelson and Candace Eskelson both of Park Rapids, MN; step grandson—Michael Eskelson of Detroit Lakes, MN; five step great grandchildren; she has sibling in Finland. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Lowell. Memorial Services will be held on Friday, April 20, 2012 at 1:00 PM at the Cease Family Funeral Home Chapel in Park Rapids, MN. Visitation will be held for 1 hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Special musical selections are “Amazing Grace” and “ Yesterday” by the Beatles.
