Obituary for Vern Beauchane

Vern Leland Beauchane, 91 of Bemidji died Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at the V.A. Medical Center in Fargo, ND.

Private family services will be held. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji assisted the family with arrangements.

Vern was born June 26, 1920 on his father’s homestead 5 miles north of Bainville, Montana, the son of Rene and Eugenie Beauchene. He graduated from Bainville High School in 1938. He left to find employment in the North Dakota harvest. He worked at a farm owned by John Mahoney for 5 years. He then worked in a Lockheed Aircraft defense plant building bombers when he was drafted into the U.S. Army in May of 1942. He served in the 45th Infantry Division. His Division was part of the invasion force on Sicily and then on the mainland south of Naples. They then landed on Anzio Beach. Later, they boarded an LST and sailed to southern France and pursued the Germans all the way to Munich when they surrendered. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant in early October of 1945. He returned to North Dakota and started farming. He married Karen Anderson on February 6, 1954. They farmed in Lakota and Tolna, North Dakota. They moved to Bemidji in 1986 where they built a house in Helga Township. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and reading. He loved showing his family his computer skills, but his pride and joy was his Bobcat, using it to do many projects in the dirt.

He is survived by 4 sons- David (Betty) Beauchane of Englewood, Colorado Michael (Patricia) Beauchane of West Fargo, ND Gary Beauchane of Laporte, MN Greg Beauchane of Bemidji, MN 2 daughters- Denise (Ronald) Poirier of Denver, Colorado Julie Beauchane of Bemidji, MN 8 grandchildren 4 great grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife- Karen in 2007, 4 sisters- Dora , Evelyn, Bernice and Louise, and 4 brothers- Martin, Robert, Elmer and Homer.
