Arlyce Gunning

Arlyce Gunning, 84, of Leonard, Minnesota died on Friday, May 11, 2012 at the home of her niece in Clearbrook, MN.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Clearbrook, MN with Reverend Robert Kirchman officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Clearbrook, MN. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted with the arrangements.

Arlyce was born on July 21, 1927 in Leonard, Minnesota the daughter of Walter and Selma (Hagen) Torgerson. She grew up in Leonard and graduated from Clearbrook High School in 1946. She attended teacher’s training in Grand Forks, ND. and began her teaching career in one room school houses. Arlyce married Walter Gunning on June 30, 1948 in Clearbrook, they moved to the family farm near Clearbrook, MN. Arlyce continued teaching in rural country schools. Arlyce and family moved to Rosemount, MN in 1965 where she also taught school. She later began working for Target Corp. in Burnsville, MN for 15+ years. Arlyce and Walter retired and moved back to Leonard in 1999. After Walter’s death in 2007, Arlyce continued to live in Leonard.

Arlyce was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where she was very active. She enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening and traveling. Arlyce also had two granddaughters which she loved and held very close to her heart.

She is survived by her son – Jeff (Lisa) Gunning of Rosemount, MN Son - Jerel (Jennifer) Gunning of Hixton, WI 2 Granddaughters – Camille and Sabina Gunning both of Hixton, WI Sister – Janice Nyland of Clearbrook, MN Brother – Eugene Torgerson of Leonard, MN

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her sister – Betty Rud
