Edith "Edie" Brown, 86, of Pennington, Minnesota, died Sunday, July 29, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Society - Blackduck.
There will be a family visitation from 1-2 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 1 at Cease Funeral Home in Blackduck. Interment will be at the Lakeview Cemetery in Blackduck.
Casket bearers will be her grandsons, Pat Brown, Tom Brown, Chris Brown, Ryan Brown and great-grandsons, Colton Brown and Trent Brown.
Edith was born November 24, 1925 in Vernon Center, Minnesota to Louis and Blanche (Duddridge) Arndt. She was the youngest of five children. She grew up in Austin, Minnesota and married George Brown in 1942. They made Austin their home until 1948 when they moved to Pennington, Minnesota. They owned and operated the Pennington Store and Post Office.
Edith was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bemidji, American Legion Auxiliary and the National Association of Postmasters. She was a past member of the Pennington Triangle. Her husband, George, died in February 1961. She became Postmaster in April 1961 and continued to operate the Pennington Store and Post Office until 1989 when she retired and moved to her home on Pug Hole Lake where she enjoyed her flowers, the birds and continue her love of traveling.
She is survived by her son, Michael (Nita) Brown of Blackduck; sister, Agnes Rush of Austin; daughter-in-law, Barb Brown of Pennington. "Grama Edie" is also survived by 5 grandsons; 8 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; son, George, Jr.; brothers, Emil Arndt and Alan Arndt and a sister, Peg Wallace.
