Freda Helen Elmore, 82, of Northome, formerly of Crookston, Minnesota died on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at the Northome Healthcare Center in Northome, Minnesota.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the Faith Lutheran Church in Blackduck, Minnesota with Rev. Tom Reagan officiating. A visitation will be held for 2 hours prior to the funeral, from11 AM to 1PM, at the church. Burial will be at the Oakdale Cemetery in Crookston. Cease Family Funeral Home of Blackduck assisted the family with arrangements.
Active pallbearers will be Albert Boese, Larry Carlson, Maynard Pierce, Barry Bingham, Clair Brennen, and Steve Jensen. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Freda’s nieces and nephews, including her great great nephews, Zachary and Jacob Pierce.
Freda was born on February 16 1931 in Ottertail County, MN, the daughter of Christ and Elsie (Stien) Thom. She graduated from Fergus Falls High School. She was united in marriage to William “Bill” F. Elmore on May 7, 1956 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. They lived in Roswell, New Mexico until Bill was discharged from the military. They then lived in Fergus Falls and moved to Moorhead, Minnesota. In the mid 1960’s they built a house in Crookston and lived there for the rest of their married life. She worked as a bookkeeper for National Foods in Crookston for 11 years. She was a stay at home mom and sold Avon for 40 years. After Bill’s retirement she worked for REM group homes in Crookston as an aide for 13 years. After Bill’s death in 2007 she moved to Turtle River, Minnesota and lived with her daughter until last year when she moved to the Northome Healthcare Center because of health reasons. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Crookston for 50 years, and more recently was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Blackduck. Freda was a nice person who loved her family dearly. She especially enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters. She loved to embroider.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharie (Christopher) Okland of Turtle River; 3 granddaughters, Kjrsten Okland of Chesapeake, Virginia, & Emiliy and Laura Okland both of Turtle River; her sister, Myrtle Allen of Perham, Minnesota; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her infant granddaughter, Elizabeth Okland; her parents; her brothers, Edward, Hank, Ernest, and Arnold Thom; and 2 sisters, Mildred and Margaret.
