Wayne Leroy Koehly

Wayne Leroy Koehly, 69, of Nevis, MN died peacefully on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 in his home. Wayne was born on October 2, 1943 in Slayton, MN, the son of Carl Eldridge and Dorothy Jean (Phelps) Koehly. He grew up in Slayton, MN where he graduated from high school in 1962. He went on to attend the DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago then worked at Honeywell for 5 years followed by Medtronic for 16 years. The next 20 years he owned and operated Coast To Coast and later Ace Hardware. Wayne resided in several communities including Chanhassen, Wyoming, Elk River, Zimmerman and since his retirement in 2006 resided in Nevis, MN. He was married to Laurie Jeanne Oelke on June 1, 2006 in Zimmerman, MN. He became a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Akeley, MN. Wayne had a passion in anything that had a motor, especially Corvettes. He enjoyed learning about American history, and also enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors. He is survived by his wife – Laurie J. Koehly of Nevis, MN; his son – Neil (Jill) Koehly of Blaine, MN; his daughter – Heather (Jon) Wright of Ham Lake, MN; his Step-Daughters - Sarah (Gordon) Anderson of Ogilvie, MN; and Jennifer (Mike) Pace of Foley, MN; Granddaughters Fuchsia, Erica, Caitlin, Kettricken, Lillian, and Treasa; Grandsons Lance, Dominic, Aaron and Sawyer. He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Dorothy Koehly. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 2:00 PM at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Akeley, MN. Visitation will be held for 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Pastor Harvey Kietzman will be officiating. Danny Lecy will be the soloist. The family requests memorials in lieu of flowers.
