Harold A. Lowe

U.S. Veteran

Harold A. Lowe, 88, of Northome, Minnesota died Saturday, May 30, 2009 at the Northome Healthcare Center in Northome, MN.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Lowe Ranch in Northome, MN with Pastor Tom Bonar officiating. Inurnment will be at the Forest Hill Cemetery with full military honors provided by VFW Post#3869 of Northome, MN.

Harold was born on December 20, 1920 at Meadow, South Dakota the son of Albert and Bessie Lowe. Harold grew up in the Meadow and Coal Springs area and attended school at the Prairie View Country School. He worked as a ranch hand for different ranchers breaking in horses and herding cows and sheep. He entered the United States Army in 1942 and was stationed with the Battery B 24th Coast Artillery Battalion in New Foundland, Canada during WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1945 with the rank of Corporal. Harold married Fern Seim on June 13, 1947 at Lemmon, South Dakota. They lived and worked in Hayward, California for a couple of years and moved back to South Dakota where they ranched in the Glad Valley area. In 1967, they moved to Northome where they have lived ever since. Harold was a cattle buyer and a horse trader. He was a member of the VFW in Northome, a former member of the Mizpah Farmers Club, and a former member of the Koochiching County Fair Board. For many years Harold enjoyed his morning coffee at the Northome Café.

He is survived by his loving wife Fern Lowe of 62 years, of Northome, MN Son – Bruce (Paula) Lowe of Northome, MN Son - Chipper Lowe of Pennington, MN Son – Clyde Lowe of Northome, MN Son – Mark Lowe of Mizpah, MN Daughter – Connie (Jim) White of Northome, MN Sister – Dorothy Sime of Rapid City, South Dakota 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson – David, Four brothers – Wayne, Kenneth, Claude, and Keith; two sisters – Vivian Schoby and Alice Lowe.
