James

James “Jim” Michael Thomas,59, of Nevis, MN died on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at home. James was born on January 11, 1950 at Park Rapids, MN the son of James Oliver and Mary Monica (Casey) Thomas. He grew up and attended school in Park Rapids, MN where he graduated from high school in 1968. He went on to attend Detroit Lakes Technical School in 1970 and 1971 where he received his associate degree in Business Management. He moved to Sauk Center, MN where he worked as retail store manager until 1973. He was united in marriage to Debra Enney on July 1, 1973 at Park Rapids, MN. They moved to Boulder, Colorado where he also worked as a retail store manager until 1975. In 1975 they returned to Park Rapids area where he has resided since. He worked for Wright Tree Service in Park Rapids for two years. He then was employed at the Park Rapids Coast To Coast Hardware Store for many years until 1991. After dealer school in 1991 he went to work at the Northern Light Casino in Walker when they first opened. He continued to work there as a Blackjack and Poker dealer there for 19 years. He developed health problems recently and then retired. He was an avid fisherman, and he enjoyed hunting. He played in the local softball leagues, pool leagues, dart leagues and bowling leagues. He remained a very loyal Twins baseball fan. He is survived by his mother – Mary Monica Perry of Nevis, MN; his daughter – Alicia A. (Jason ) Thomas-Eischens of Royalton, MN. His two grandchildren – Olivia, and Eli; three brothers – Robert Thomas of Menahga, MN; Gregory Thomas of Park Rapids, MN; and David Thomas of Nevis, MN; one sister – Catherine “Kay” (Rick) Wooldridge of Edmond, Oklahoma. Several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father in 1961, his grandparents and aunts and uncles. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 24, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church im Nevis, MN. Celebrant will be Rev. Fr. Duane Pribula. Visitation will begin on Monday morning at 9:30 AM and continue until the time of the services at the church. Honorary Casketbearers will be Karol Savage, Chrissy Richey and all of his many co-workers and friends from the Northern Lights Casino in Walker. Active Casketbearers will be Kim Olson, Jack Williams, Royce Holland, Gene Henderson, Jeremy Longren, Dan Wagner, Duke Lyons, Jeff Miller, Curt Glassman and John Huber. Interment will be held at the Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Cemetery in Nevis, MN. Arrangements by the Cease Family Funeral Home of Nevis
