Kenneth Lee “Kenny” O’Loughlin, 70, of Bovey, Minnesota, died suddenly on February 23, 2013 at the Grand Itasca Hospital in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. He was doing what he loved, ice fishing. Kenny was born on April 30, 1942 at Bigfork, Minnesota, the son of Frank and Valla (King) O’Loughlin. He was raised in Northome and graduated from Northome High School in 1960. After graduation, Kenny moved to Shakopee and worked several jobs. On February 23, 1963, he was united in marriage to Kathy Week, and to this union 4 children were born. The couple later divorced. In 1971, Kenny moved to International Falls, Minnesota where he began working for Boise Cascade paper mill. After several years there, in 1977, he moved back to Northome. There he started working at the Marcell Lumber Mill as a Maintenance Supervisor and Safety Director. Kenny was employed there until his retirement in 1997. On November 26, 1994, he married Nancy O’Bradovich at the Lawron Church in Bovey, where the couple made their home. Kenny enjoyed playing cribbage, hunting, ice fishing, trapping, 4-wheeling and restoring Ford tractors from the 1940’s-50’s era. Kenny will be especially missed at Deer Camp and by his cribbage gang.
Loving family members include his wife of 18 years, Nancy; children, Tammy (Lane Becker) Fraley of Jordan, MN, and Mike (Bobbie Jo) O’Loughlin of Warroad, MN; step-children, Bonnie (Kevin) VanEyll of Albertville, MN, Barb (Randy) Mehlhoff of Langdon, ND, and Ronnie Bowstring of Grand Rapids, MN; 15 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; siblings, Carole (Earl) Estabrooks of Jordan, MN, Terry (Joyce) O’Loughlin of Oak Grove, MN, Faye Marie Estabrooks of Northome and Wayne (June) O’Loughlin of International Falls, MN; sister-in-law, Karen O’Loughlin of Northome; many nieces, nephews and other relatives; and many friends to include, Ted Jarvis and Richard Grobovey. Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Valla O’Loughlin; brother, Jim O’Loughlin; and infant twins.
Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the Northome Public High School in Northome, MN, with Rev. Thomas Galarneault, officiating. Visitation with the family will be for one hour before the services at the school. Interment will be held this spring at the Wildwood Cemetery in Wildwood Township near Northome.
